In early 2006, I created a Microsoft Access statistics database for the Information Desk, the UIUC Library's main reference service point. The database replaces pencil-and-paper tallies, allowing Info Desk staff to quickly enter stats into the database via a simple desktop widget. This saves several hours of manual data entry per month.
I wrote a suite of reports for tracking activity at the Info Desk by time of day, day of week, and type and length of question. This allows the reference department to more efficiently allocate limited staff hours to our busiest times.
